Trust is crucial in the workplace. Attitudes, words and reactions serve as a thermometer in the practical outworking of trust. Regardless of the position you hold, know that your career is being observed inside and outside of the company. Value your good relationships with coworkers and customers. Invest in ethics and common sense. Your actions can have a positive or negative effect on the daily life of many people. A phrase attributed to author Carlos Drummond de Andrade says that “Confidence is an act of faith, and this does away with rationalization.” For those who are starting professional life, I would suggest being proactive and sincere. For those who are about to finish decades of dedication to work, I recommend finishing well, leaving a shining example for others who follow. Remember that trust is a characteristic hard to gain and easy to lose.
