Trust is crucial in the workplace. Attitudes, words and reactions serve as a thermometer in the practical outworking of trust. Regardless of the position you hold, know that your career is being observed inside and outside of the company. ¬†Value your good relationships with coworkers and customers. Invest in ethics and common sense. Your actions can have a positive or negative effect on the daily life of many people. A phrase attributed to author Carlos Drummond de Andrade says that “Confidence is an act of faith, and this does away with rationalization.” For those who are starting professional life, I would suggest being proactive and sincere. For those who are about to finish decades of dedication to work, I recommend finishing well, leaving a shining example for others who follow. Remember that trust is a characteristic hard to gain and easy to lose.
